Ooops
I just realized that the hanfasting rite I posted for Olivee and me is almost the same as the one I used with Felipe in May, 2003. Oh well. The vow is as long as love may last, after all.
I've also forgitten to mention my dapper degus! A degu is a small South American critter that looks like a big gerbil and is a whole lot more intelligent. I ended up with three of them when a friend who works at the pet store gave them to me on the basis that I'm good with small mammals. I tried explaining my dozen cats, but to no avail. So I just keep them far away from each other.

Narrator - You're not a character at all. You're the one people come to when they need advice, when they need loose ends tied up for them, when they need a peacemaker. You'd probably make a great therapist or diplomat.
Fairy Tale Lady brought to you by Quizilla
You're Morgaine le Fay, sister to Arthur and priestess of Avalon. You love your brother dearly and wanted to shag Lancelet a lot. Your son Mordred killed Arthur, his father. You are often demonized in other works, but you just tried to do what you thought was best.

Our Handfasting (8/28/04)
This is the script for the rite of handfasting we had about a week ago. Anyone looking for a similar rite is welcome to borrow ours.
Here I am referred to as Sappho and Olivee is called Hypate.
The guests attending the handfasting physically make up the circle, as they are invited to stand or sit around the handfasting ceremony as accommodations allow. The Officiant stands in the North while the couple stands opposite in the South during the ceremony. In procession, one partner, Queen 1, enters the circle from the West and the other partner or Queen 2 enters from the East. The Officiant will need cords or ribbons in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and white for the actual handfasting.
Positions
OFFICIANT - A priest or priestess
QUEEN 1 - Woman being handfasted
QUEEN 2 - Woman being handfasted
MAIDEN 1 - Waits on Queen 1
MAIDEN 2 - Waits on Queen 2
GUARDIAN OF AIR - Calls the gathering together
GUARDIAN OF EARTH - Escorts Queen 2 and Maiden 2 into the circle
GUARDIAN OF FIRE - Participates in the exchange of rings
GUARDIAN OF WATER - Escorts Queen 1 and Maiden 1 into the circle
AIR: Rejoice, everyone assembled, for the blessed event is about to take place! Let us come together and make the circle now. I ask the powers of Air and inspiration to be here from the North!
All present assemble to make a circle.
EARTH: Welcome the Queens, who have come here today to be partnered!
Earth leads Queen 2 and Maiden 2 into the circle. Queen 2 stands before the officiant and Maiden 2 stands off to her right.
EARTH: I ask the powers of Earth and constancy to be here from the East!
Fire steps forward, presenting the rings in open palms.
FIRE: Behold these rings forged in the energy of the fire! I ask the powers of Fire and love to be here from the South!
Fire hands one ring to Maiden 2, and then waits.
WATER: Welcome the Queens, who have come here today to be partnered!
Water leads Queen 1 and Maiden 1 into the circle. Queen 1 stands before the officiant next to Queen 2 and Maiden 1 stands off to her left.
WATER: I ask the powers of Water and emotion to be here from the West!
Fire hands one ring to Maiden and then retreats into the South of the circle.
OFFICIANT: The Elements have been invited and our circle is created.
ALL: Blessings on all who have come together today before the Goddess!
OFFICIANT: We have journeyed here today to celebrate and acknowledge the journey that has been taken by two people, Sappho and Hypate. From a tiny acorn of hope these two have nurtured and tended to the sapling that was their early relationship and raised it into a mighty oak. Today Sappho and Hypate make a vow to continue what they have begun together, to nourish it and each other with love and compassion.
Herein lies a tale worthy of the troubadours of old, a story of a love too strong to be thwarted. We have two people, two lonely people, two people with broken hearts and broken lives. In spite of the great distance between them, they are able by some great magic to meet and begin to know one another. Fondness becomes like, and like becomes endearment, and after time passes, endearment bursts into love. But the chimeras of distance and life situation and doubt raise their ugly heads, casting a dark shadow upon the love coming to be. These two, these lovers, united and armed with courage and determination, challenge the chimeras in close combat. Against all probability, love vanquishes hesitation, and the prize is for the lovers to move into each other's arms and go forth into the future a couple indivisible. So mote it be.
Officiant turns to Queen 2.
OFFICIANT: Hypate, have you come into this ceremony today of your own free will?
QUEEN 2: I have.
OFFICIANT: What is your will in being here?
QUEEN 2: To be handfast to my partner, Sappho.
OFFICIANT: How do you enter into this handfast?
QUEEN 2: In reciprocity, I will be of her as she will be of me.
OFFICIANT: Before the Goddess, for how long will you make this pledge?
QUEEN 2: For long as love may last between us.
Officiant turns to Queen 1.
OFFICIANT: Sappho, have you come into this ceremony today of your own free will?
QUEEN 1: I have.
OFFICIANT: What is your will in being here?
QUEEN 1: To be handfast to my partner, Hypate.
OFFICIANT: How do you enter into this handfast?
QUEEN 1: In reciprocity, I will be of her as she will be of me.
OFFICIANT: Before the Goddess, for how long will you make this pledge?
QUEEN 1: For long as love may last between us.
OFFICIANT: The Queens will now exchange rings as symbols of their love and fidelity.
The Maidens step forward to give the rings to the Queens.
QUEEN 2: My Queen, ruler of my heart and mistress of my passions, I offer you this ring as a symbol of my desire to make a union with you and you alone. I pledge to you all that is myself. I do and will respect you and honor you. In your dreams and pursuits I wish that you will lead me by the hand to understand you and that you will help me to support you. Take this ring and know as you wear it of my love for you and be assured that you can depend upon me now and forever.
QUEEN 1: My Queen, ruler of my heart and master of my passions, I offer you this ring as a symbol of my desire to make a union with you and you alone. I pledge to you all that is myself. I do and will respect you and honor you. In your dreams and pursuits I wish that you will lead me by the hand to understand you and that you will help me to support you. Take this ring and know as you wear it of my love for you and be assured that you can depend upon me now and forever.
OFFICIANT: Now will the Queens join hands for this sacred rite of union. In times before our own couples celebrated their uniting through the binding of their hands to each other's. Join us in witnessing the handfasting of Sappho and Hypate through the Rainbow Blessing.
Officiant wraps the red cord around the couple's wrists.
OFFICIANT: With this red cord you are bound to each other in love, passion, courage, vitality, and power.
Officiant wraps the orange cord around the couple's wrists.
OFFICIANT: With this orange cord you are bound to each other in joy and success.
Officiant wraps the yellow cord around the couple's wrists.
OFFICIANT: With this yellow cord you are bound to each other in mental closeness, achieving, and always learning.
Officiant wraps the green cord around the couple's wrists.
OFFICIANT: With this green cord you are bound to each other in calm and prosperity.
Officiant wraps the blue cord around the couple's wrists.
OFFICIANT: With this blue cord you are bound to each other in health, and safety.
Officiant wraps the purple cord around the couple's wrists.
OFFICIANT: With this purple cord you are bound to each other in spirituality.
Officiant wraps the white cord around the couple's wrists.
OFFICIANT: Finally, with this white cord you are bound to each other in this new beginning

How I Came Out Lesbian
Mood:
lucky
We were all together the other day, talking about relationships and the adventures of being in one. Rob mentioned how he was bitter about how he and his ex-wife had split. A few other people echoed the bitterness. But Olivee wouldn't hear it. She said that if anyone had a legitimate reason to be bitter, it was me. But I'm not bitter. I've let go of my anger and sorrow to be happy right here and right now. But this is an example of why I love Olivee.
I feel like I spent 12 years--4 in college and 8 married--denying who I really am. No more.
Just after my marriage--which was a sexual travesty in and of itself--fell apart, I took up with a handsome gentleman from Mexico. Even though we fell in love, I kept in mind that I could be on the rebound. We made love for the first time on Halloween, 2001, just a week shy of my thirtieth birthday. We even got pregnant and planned to keep the baby (that wasn't to be--I miscarried in March, 2002). We spoke of marriage. Yet something nagged at me. I knew something wasn't quite right.
But I loved Felipe. By early 2002 we were living together and planning to wed. It would be the second marriage for both of us. I still felt confused, so I threw myself into experimenting. Steve, Robert, Jack--and my feeling of discontentment continued.
My grandfather died in March of 2003. Felipe and I had been planning to wed on Beltane of that year, but out of respect for my grandfather I insisted that we move the wedding back a year. A few months before, I had met Olivee in tai chi class. We had become fast friends, to the point where she attended the funeral with me.
At this time my relationship with Felipe was strained. He must have felt me drifting. I was spending more time with Olivee than with him. What can I say other than Olivee and I clicked? After my first intimate encounter with Olivee I knew what had been wrong with my previous relationships. I was a lesbian disguised as a heterosexual or a bisexual.
I had to tell Felipe. We held each other and cried, but truth was truth. Basically, he understood. He returned to Mexico. I never have stopped loving him, but I love him in a way that suits who I am.
For more than a year now I've been with Olivee. We've watched the same sex issue wax and wane. But our promise and trust does not wane. I am proud to be who I am and I have a partner who does not waver.

About This Blogger
Mood:
bright
REAL NAME:What is real? What is illusion? Who really gives a sweet damn? Fine, it's Emilie Jane Caithlin Conroy in English normworld things. However, I have taken issue with the name as I never got to name myself, and I have taken charge of choosing many names for myself now. You know...different audiences...social versus professional...all that kind of crap. Whatever the name, it's always me underneath it, and I'm not difficult to...er...identify. "A rose by any other name would still cost as much and would still prick me until I bleed."
BIRTHDATE: November 8, 1971 (and yes...trust me...there IS life after 30...)
SIGN OF THE ZODIAC: Which Zodiac?
SEX: What there is of me does appear to be all functional female.
GENDER: I've got too much of my father in me to be all woman, and yet I am entirely too much woman to be a man.
LIFE THEME IN A WORD: "Apocalypse"
SYMBOLS: I like the crescent moon (connecting with the energies of womanhood as well as the inevitable blade of Death's scythe), the Egyptian ankh (for the vibrance of life and as a mirror for self-reflection, but mostly to symbolize eternity), and a Celtic knotwork pentagram (represents the interconnectedness of all things). As a Discordian, I'm also fond of the golden apple. Being a Gnostic scholar, I have an affinity for images of Abraxas. Of course, I have my own sigyl to represent myself.
STONES: Amethyst, amber, jade, citrine, moonstone
TOTEM ANIMALS:I have Bear of the Body and Dragonfly of the Spirit. PATH: Gnostic Dianic Discordian Classical Pagan Animist
FRAGRANCE: Nag Champa, poppy, green tea, lavender, sage, rose
HAIR COLOR: Nutmeg
EYE COLOR: Jade (not jaded)
MARITAL STATUS: I'll be damned if I know.
INCUBATION:Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA (highly responsible for my attitude)
INTERIM: I moved away for college, moved to Florida for graduate school, lived in the Sunshine State for eight years, and came back to Philadelphia in 2001.
CURRENT RESIDENCE: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Filthadelfia, Pennsyltucky)
OCCUPATION: Editor, Stone Bench Press/creative interface online educator/agitator/media/publishing monster
ODD JOBS: Advocate and activist, court jester, thanatologist, Web visionary, brain-to-pick at large, spirit dabbler
EDUCATION: Graduated with a B.A. in History (Phi Alpha Theta honor society, to boot)from Muhlenberg College and then went on to get bored with graduate school at Florida State University. I've since gotten training in grief counselling and emergency operations. The journey is by no means finished, but the universe remains the best teacher of all.
GREATEST TRANSFORMATIVE EVENT: My grandfather passed away on March 10, 2003. In my life he had always been like a second father. He had been sick for years and endured a painful seven weeks in the hospital prior to his death. In addition to the heavy sense of loss, his illness and death threw so many important issues into relief for me--elder care, health care in general, questions the family had regarding his treatment, patient and family rights and initiatives, the issue of declaring hospice. Personally, I came to a sharp realization that the people around me needed me and needed a healthier me than I was. My grandfather wasn't around to watch over the family anymore, and I knew that charge would be from him to me. It's really been a new life and a new way of living for me and for all of us, a change that has been a true gift.
CAUSES CELEBRES: I'm giving what I can working for mental health awareness, elder health awareness, the American Diabetes Association (both of my parents are diabetics), the American Heart Association, breast cancer awareness, AIDS awareness, and incorporating all of these, the cause of universal health care.
HOBBIES: Taphophilia, snakes, classical historical reconstruction, reading, cryptozoology, movies, Bartspotting, snowboarding (when possible), gardening (same deal), lurking in shadowed places, the occult (more a passion than a hobby) and various arts and crafts related to occult practice
FAVORITE ANIME:Space Battleship Yamato, Gatchaman, Cowboy Bebop, Gunbusters, Evangelion, Robotech/Macross, Akira, Escaflowne, Ranma 1/2, Mazinger Z, the Mermaid Trilogy...and, dare I mention it, Sailor Moon!
PETS: Nine felines named Frodo, Bilbo, Gandalf, Arwen, Eowyn, Galadriel, Aragorn, Legolas, and Sauron. I need more cats.
PRIZED POSSESSION: The Buddha was right on this one. Attachment leads to suffering. We're not unhappy because we don't have fancy cars or cell phones or live-in concubines--we're unhappy because we want these things. So I reply, "Prized possession? If I can possess it, it should not be prized. If I prize it, it cannot be possessed." On the other hand, I could be full of shit.
NOMS DE NET: I sometimes go by Sappho or by Dragonfly. Other than that I don't feel like discussing it. Need a nick? You know where to find me.
IRC HANGOUT: IRC is like SOOOOOOOO Twentieth Century!
FAVORITE SPORTS/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Snowboarding, dancing, skateboarding, hockey, soccer, basketball, and archaic weapons techniques
MODE OF TRANSPORTATION: I traded the '03 Tiburon for a PT Cruiser that I adore. I also have a part share in a '67 Cadillac hearse (split among eight people).
FAVORITE TV SHOW: Dead Like Me
FAVORITE MOVIE: Seven or The Matrix
FAVORITE BOOKS: Yeesh, don't get me started...
FAVORITE MUSIC: "Barnyard Boogie" by Louis Jordan...I have discovered that in addition to rockgothtechocrap, I like jazz and the blues a whole lot.
FAVORITE FOODS: Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Middle Eastern, buffalo wings (though in smaller quantities these days), tea, apples, oatmeal, and wasabi peas...
FAVORITE RESTAURANTS: Sahara, Jannie, El Azteca, Pod, the souvlaki place that I can always find but can never recall its name, and...well..sheesh...this is a real city you know!
FAVORITE COLOR: Purple
FAVORITE ARTIST: Gustav Mossa, Boris Viejo, James O'Barr, Charles Addams, Eric Bakke, Coop, any Dutch artists...
DIRTY LITTLE SECRET: Ixnay. If I told you, it wouldn't be my dirty little secret anymore, would it?
WORDS TO LIVE BY: "It's not so much talent as it is my refusal to believe that anything is impossible."
In matters of the spirit...
Call me Sappho. I'm the founder of the Dianic Coven of Sister Baubo. I'm a 33 year old woman in Philadelphia, PA USA blessed to be a partner in Stone Bench Press. I've been Dianic since 1988, and in that time I've also managed to learn about other paths.
At Mystic Witch I have the positions of Advice Editor and Holidays/Celebrations writer. I have been in service to the Pagan community as a solver of problems since 1993. I offer compassion and personal attention to anyone seeking the Pagan Way. Mostly I've come to understand the role of the mediator in resolving individual arguments and larger disagreements.
I struck up a good relationship with the goddess Athena when I was a little girl, and my journey unrolled from there. Today I am the head priestess of the Grove of the Seven Sisters, which is a union of seven local groups. As a writer I specialize in Wiccan/Pagan topics. I am a member of the Re-formed Congregation of the Goddess and the Sisterhood of Themiskyra. Additionally I founded the Wiccan/Pagan Research Center to compile information and collect statistics from the community.
I like gardening, Japanimation, history, languages, dragonflies, fragrant baths, hand crafts, and hot peppers.
If there's anything else to share right now, I don't know what it would be. Shine on and be well!
